Csernus Winery & Vineyards is a family winery run by Karol Csernus and his son Karol Jr. The vineyards are located in the southern part of the Central Slovak wine-growing region above the village of Vinica, south of the beautiful volcanic mountain Stráž. Their excellent wines are characterized by the taste and aroma of unique gifts of nature, spiced with minerality obtained from the subsoil. The wines are created by long generations, which also proves that they maintain the family tradition. The village of Vinica has been inhabited for more than 400 years
White Wines
Pirogránit, 2022
“Pirogránit offers a unique experience, Riesling Rýnsky shows us a different face that we have not seen before, maturing in special Pirogránit balls. The breathability of the amphora highlights the oil tones of Riesling, but leaves notes of candied orange fruit. In sips, it shows a pleasant fullness and mature tones, accompanied by a calm, wide range of acids. The acids harmonize the sugar left after fermentation, which is also played with by the salty undertones of the volcanic bedrock. The very long finesse keeps the taste of the sip in our mouths for a long time, making us wonder how such a miracle could have been born in the Carpathian Basin.”

Jázmin & Hanna, 2023
“Jázmin & Hanna is made from Veltliner Grün, named after two grandchildren of the Csernus family, as the wine was aged in two 300 L amphorae named after their grandchildren. The amphorae were made for them by Attila Légli in the southern part of Lake Balaton. During the 12-month maturation, the extraordinary character of Veltliner Grün was born, the wine pampers us with more mature tones from gentle micro-oxidation, but also has a taut freshness, as the amphorae also contain limestone, which kept the acids and salty mineral taste fresh from the volcanic bedrock. It is an excellent complement to fish and white meat dishes.”

VULCANO Chardonnay, 2022
“VULCANO Chardonnay promises to bring the unique character of a unique vintage to our glass. For the production of wine, the winery chose first-fill barrels, the raw material of which, the wood, was dried for 3 years by the cooper, which was selected for them from the Börzsöny Mountains from oak grown on volcanic bedrock, which is more than 100 years old. In the first year, these barrels brought complexity of taste, released the energy resulting from all 100 years of life’s trials, which carries the taste of a dormant volcano and the added subtle elegance of the battonage process. A worthy choice for the top wine of every evening, which will take you to a completely different level of life.

Fossil Chardonnay, 2023
“Fossil Chardonnay is a top-notch white wine from Csernus winery, before the virgin harvest of their newly planted Chardonnay plantation, really strong roots gifted them with 1-2 bunches of grapes. During the gravity processing, the pure juice flow was separated from the press, fermented separately and then matured in Seguin Moro barrels until November. Like all Chardonnays, this one is also made using the battonage process. The sip is extremely silky, elegant, the French oak dried on the Atlantic coast endowed the Chardonnay with a captivating vanilla flavor that completes the harmony with the banana and mango fruit character. In the long finish, the creamy buttery taste from the battonage process completes it. They can proudly say that this is the most elegant and captivating Hôr Stráž wine.“

red Wines
Frankovka Modrá SELECTION, 2021
“Frankovka Modrá is one of the defining red varieties in the Hont region, it likes a cool climate and its low tannins allow it to acquire a beautiful fruity character every year even with less sunlight. Our style is based on cherry and sour cherry fruitiness based on good acids, which is complemented by a black pepper character thanks to old clones. We treat barrel aging delicately, using it only to flavor the delicate vanilla and smoky aftertaste, which completes the resulting taste and increases the velvety effect in harmony with the tannins. Over time, tones reminiscent of dry leaves from the forest will develop at the end of the sip, thanks to the volcanic substratum, but the ripe and overripe fruitiness will always prevail. “

Fossil & Magma Cuvée, 2023
“The basis of Fossil & Magma Cuvée is an unusual blend: “Pinot Noir fell in love with Frankovka.” A top-notch red wine from the Csernus winery. The virgin harvest of their newly planted Pinot Noir and Frankovka Modrá plantation, truly strong roots gifted them with 1-2 bunches of grapes. The very small harvest of this vine was hand-crushed in an open vat 4-5 times a day using artistic movements to minimize oxidation of the wine fermenting on the skins. The juice was drained from the vat, which was then matured in Seguin Moro barrels until November. “Love turned into marriage. Pinot Noir tamed Frankovka, and Frankovka revived Pinot Noir.” Playing with the wine in the glass, sometimes Pinot Noir, sometimes Frankovka Modrá, shows its exciting character through ripe red fruitiness. If harmony exists in a cuvée, then this is its embodiment, which, in addition to its silky appearance, will captivate you with its fullness. “
